  • “They don’t know shy away from Harley being a brutal murderer” If that is the case, why doesn’t she basically kill all the cops when she storms into the police station? Oh I guess cause it would make her too unlikable. This movie’s dogshit, the pacing is so horrendous you ask yourself the entire movie where the fuck is all of this going.

    Filip BöhmFilip Böhm14 ngày trước
    • I took it that Harvey was actually killing the cops in the police station, it was just in Harvey's crazy mind she saw confetti and bean bags.

  • I agree with this assessment. I still really enjoyed the movie, but it certainly could've been improved. I think it might be a hard watch if you don't enjoy it's blatant: "gurl powah" message, but the message is such a good theme for Harley's character arc throughout the movie. It's really got good development fir Harley. Mmy main complaint, that even tops what's mentioned in the video, is that the final action sequence destroys the tension and the stakes; for Mme at least. *SPOILERS* I thought we'd get a climactic shootout, and it'd go all die hard. Black mask brought like 60 people to kill them, but apparently he only gave firearms to about 3-5 of them. Even worse, those gunmen, who are given all the power, and begin to raise the tension again, are taken out by a _SUPERPOWER THAT COMES FROM NOWHERE!!!_ (I know it was obscurely hinted at once in the film, but that's not enough for such a tension destroying callback) In Mmy opinion this is where the gurl powah message goes too far, because it really hurt the movie in Mmy eyes. There was no struggle at all in the final climax, and worse yet, they promised an epic last stand type struggle immediately before beginning the fight! God! I really needed to vent about this. I'm a fan of this movie, but it has problems! Thankfully, it respects the star of the show though, ✌🤡♀️

  • My issue with the movie really is that the Harley Quinn TV Show did everything this movie was supposed to do, but better. And maybe it isn't exactly a fair comparison as one is a show and therefore has more episodes to get into it but this movie didn't even come close.

  • I wish it was just a Harley Quinn movie, they tried to shoehorn in a bit of birds of prey in the end and it made me physically cringe, i wish they had made Roman Sionis more like he was in arkham origins(even though he was actually joker in disguise) because if they had trimmed the fat of the other birds and focused more on Roman's back story to make him a deeper character and done the same with Victor Zsasz (I hated that he was just a lackie because he is way deeper in the comics) it would have made the film one of my favorite in the DCCU overall a fun movie though.

  • How does the DCEU consistently manage to have the WORST character designs of any major film franchise? Harley has dressed like trash in every film she’s been in. Superman has the awful mesh look. Flash looks like he made his suit in a junkyard. Aquaman’s armor looks boring. Black Canary looks AWFUL.

    Borsalino KizaruBorsalino KizaruTháng trước
  • Some may not have this issue, but if a franchise has way too inconsistent of a tone, it completely destroys the immersions of the story for me.

  • Montoya is the worst DCEU character of all time. Her actress isn’t helping either, her drunk scene is worse than a low budget college film’s acting. She just fucking sucks

  • I just rlly didn’t like the side characters, especially the kid. she’s just so bland and has terrible line delivery

    sage sockssage socksTháng trước
  • Hm, no, Cassandra definitely had an arc in this movie. She’s a rotten kid who’s like that due to her fucked up family(ies), she’s built up walls to keep herself protected since she’s probably gone through the system so many times and gone through a bunch of shitty families. It’s the classic “orphan with trust issues” trope, it’s not particularly nuanced or unique but it’s an arc nonetheless, and as far as the other characters go: Huntress has a sort of similar arc but yea she’s barley in it, her arc is about getting out of her shell and putting her faith in friends. Canary has to overcome fear and complacency to be the hero she can and should be, like her barley mentioned but slightly integral mother. Montoya, similarly has to stop being complacent in letting people push her around, I guess? Montoya’s arc is definitely the weakest but her role, at least, huh, I’m not entirely sure what purpose she serves, whoops. Mask is the antagonist and a fun character, we saw he wants, needs, character quirks, we hit everything we needed to know about him from him. Zasz or however the fuck you spell it was a good right hand man to him, matching his crazy in an equal but different way, Zasz is just a freak who genuinely enjoys this type of job and Mask allows him to do that job. Last is Harley Quinn, she has to stop being sorry for herself and form an identity outside of Joker, doing what she wants, being truly free. I think the movie was pretty good, it had all it’s characters and they all served their purpose with Montoya not being as necessary but adding an interesting dynamic. Helena also wasn’t needed but she had personal stakes in the diamond so meh. I agree that it could have easily just been a “out for Harley’s head” film and it kind of was but was still more about the diamond than anything. Cassandra Cain and the diamond did not need to be in this movie. Cain as an idea is interesting for Harley’s character and forced her change along more but ultimately she would have been fine without Cain being there and the fact that they’re using that character is also unnecessary, it could have been any kid. The diamond plot was unnecessary too, they already laid the groundwork for everyone being after Harley and had it as a major enough point so that should have just been the film. Harley could have so important info from her time with the Joker, could be about an account of the Bertanelies (dk how to spell that) that Joker acquired. Montoya wants to get Harley cuz she’s a criminal, same as before, Helena wants her family’s legacy, and Roman (and all the other criminals) are in it for a mix of revenge and money. That still gets everyone involved while providing interesting new dynamics and chopping out Cassandra could put Helena in the film earlier and make that the moral pull for Dinah. She would have been forced to do it anyway, working for Roman, but Helena would have met her at some point and Montoya woulda still talked to her culminating in her helping Helena because “it’s the right thing to do”. Harley could have an arc of trusting people again since Joker toyed with her so much while retaining that “what should I do with my new freedom” shit. Helena’s arc would be purely based around truly and finally avenging her family instead of being kinda ambiguous before. Everyone else stays the same and this time they team up at the end because Dinah is working with Montoya AND Helena and once Harley finds out why Helena wants her (let’s say they had a moment earlier where Hel’ went after her, but due to her awkwardness didn’t actually explain what she wanted) she’s totally on board to help her, as long as they help Harley get out since the criminals are still after her. And boom, those are all my thoughts.

  • “Has feminist energy without being obnoxious” isn’t what I’d describe the feminism in this movie, every male character is an absolute idiot and harlequin and her gang are portrayed in a pretty flattering way along with the “subtle” messages that the joker isn’t actually vary smart and really just steals harlequins ideas. Don’t even think how that destroys the joker as an interesting character and absolutely bastardizes everything we’ve been told about the joker up to this point. There’s also subtle and annoying stuff like a 120 pound woman without any super powers being able to take a 250 pound man that’s got her beat by a foot and absolutely rag dolls him or how it feels like some of these female characters just do stuff “because they are strong independent waman that can do what they want”. harlequin is the embodiment of what’s wrong with modern films portraying “feminist values”, she’s violent and vulgar for no apparent reason except for the aforementioned “strong waman”, and isn’t really developed past the “idgaf” feminist attitude, if you really love and care for woman you don’t want to see them portrayed like this in movies it only feeds into unflattering stereotypes and makes men and woman alike hate female characters. Btw this is a problem with male characters as well just to a lesser extent due to it not being that trendy to have pro male messages in your movies

    SparksSparks4 tháng trước
    • Black Mask was interesting and actually fun though. As for Joker I feel like that was just intentional to shit on Leto's Joker for fanservice And it's not like current DC hates Joker because they just made a billion-dollar movie with his character

      SaltyGudako 5SaltyGudako 57 ngày trước
  • I think DC should stop trying to do the same thing as Marvel and expect to be successful. They are just not going to do as well. Joker did something different and look how successful that was.

  • your racism kinda bothers me, everytime there's something stupidly written or something is lefty, stupily progressive or feminist you have to assume it's made by bunch of white guys. it's like 10th your clip I watch in a row and I hear it ALL THE TIME. now if I said "they're talking about selling crack and killing their own kind - they must be black" you would scream racism, and you'll be right. sooo double standards much?

    kokrouczkokroucz4 tháng trước
  • Didn’t Margot Robbie say that Harley shouldn’t carry a film by herself? Like, it’s not good for her character because she wants friends and being by herself is terrible. Personally, I loved this movie. The stupid plot mixed with villains who were both shallow and realistically horrifying (that scene where he forces a woman to strip was sooooo uncomfortable) was a great blend. The action scenes were a joy to watch and I love how it felt like Harley just gave the filmmakers a perfect excuse to inject as much color into this movie as they could. As for having a comic book anti-hero break the forth wall and narrate out of order, Deadpool doesn’t own that. Just because it was the first to do it doesn’t mean that all that do it after are ripping it off. I think it does make sense for Harley’s character to loop around in her storytelling because that’s just how her mind works. Also, with the whole show don’t tell shit, you can show AND tell, like Harley does. Most of what she says doesn’t line up with what is being shown and that’s a hallmark of an unreliable narrator. Anyway, I just watched it for the first time and I loved it.

    SuadelaSuadela4 tháng trước
    • @Brendan Milburn I stand corrected. Deadpool doesn’t own it and wasn’t even the first.

In the comics Harley is still smart and uses her looks to her advantage and "acts" crazy so people dont take her seriously, similar to Jack Sparrow. This Harley is just.. dumb and has a lot of Luck. • So I finally watched this movie like a few weeks ago and while I didn’t absolutely hate it like I thought I was going to, it’s not a necessarily good movie either. I don’t like how most of the characters were portrayed (Cassandra Cain, Black Mask, Huntress who’s barely in the movie, Black Canary because they race bended her, and Victor Zsasz) and it seemed like they were shoved to the wayside in favor of Harley. Some other people also say that they didn’t beat us over the head with the feminism but I actually disagree. This movie portrayed men basically as violent and/or sexist pigs and was all about girl power and how Harley don’t need no man. I felt like it beat me over the head with that message. And of course Harley was the best thing about the movie. It was her movie and she got all the attention/development!lol I also don’t think this movie had to be rated R. They could’ve made an even better PG-13 version of this movie and it would’ve made more money than the version we got. The one scene I did like in the movie was the jail fight scene. This movie was screwed from the jump though because they marketed it terribly and they alienated their audience. 6/10 for me. Hopefully the DCEU does get soft rebooted so that we can get a proper Birds of Prey movie with the proper cast and crew working on it with Barbara Gordon (not Harley Quinn) putting the team together and leading them.

It also helps that she's a popular choice in many a comic book fan-casting for years since Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010). Cathy Yan is the first Asian woman to direct a superhero movie. She is second woman to direct a DC film after Patty Jenkins. Two cops in the film are named Dimm and Tini, referencing Harley's creators Bruce Timm and Paul Dini Ellen Yee is named after Ellen Yin, the Asian Gotham City police officer in The Batman (2004).

  • Harley Quinn is an amazing character and Margot Robbie nails the role every time. She definitely could carry her own movie with ease. Just not this one.. This one was so bad that it actually made me angry when I left the theatre because I really wanted a good Harley Quinn movie. Black Canary was a charisma black hole whose character was wasted and not interesting. Huntress had potential and the actress portrayed her well enough in the 5 minutes of speaking time she had. Renee Montoya was an absolute joke. I'm supposed to believe that this overweight 50 year old woman can fight like that? Harley Quinn gets a pass because being deceptively good at hand to hand combat is part of Harley Quinn, but RENEE MONTOYA?? Give me a break. This movie is a solid 4 AT BEST. It gets a 3 because Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn is awesome. Bumped 2 points to a 5 because McGregor as Black Mask was great, but loses another point because they absolutely butchered Zsasz. You may argue that all the SJW crap brings it down even more, but I realize that some people like that shit so I'm trying to be fair. You can make your female characters awesome without simultaneously making all the men in your film weak, evil, or in most cases both. End of rant.

    • overweight, really??

      Anthony SalazarAnthony Salazar5 tháng trước
    • @Valeria Zimina I chose my words carefully. She’s not fat or obese at all. But yes, she is slightly overweight for her height and it’s not believable that she would be able to sustain hand to hand combat with multiple grown men larger and stronger than her like she does in the movie. I’m not being rude to the actress. She did a fine job with the role she was given and Montoya is a good character when written right. I just didn’t think that it was believable in this movie. And it also diminishes the special quality of Harley because she’s supposed to be the one who can fight and is deceptively dangerous. In this movie every woman can beat 3 or 4 dudes in a fight easily.

  • I kind of like the unconventional plot structure it kind of gives time to flesh out the characters a bit more without crossing to much over. I actually liked the dialogue and the other characters a lot and the action which was great. Also it has actual character development, good motivations and backstory’s for all the characters which I was rlly pleased with as somehow the actual justice league movie missed all of that stuff. Plus the direction is top notch. Find it crazy how Dc are now letting directors do whatever they want. The only problems I had was Cassandra Cane and the dymand did my head in a bit. I’ve actually re watched this movie and I’d give it an 8/10 cuz I had a lot of enjoyment

  • This movie was so bad to me. I liked the cinematography but the story was just terrible.

  • Ok why does everyone hate that scene in Avengers Endgame. It was just showing the female avengers standing next to each other.

  • I enjoyed this movie. And I think Margot is the perfect Harley. However, despite this, Margot Robbie deserves better material to work with. She’s clearly a terrific actress and could easy carry a Harley Quinn movie on her own but they haven’t given her the best material to work with

    • @SaltyGudako 5 Yeah I know. I’m saying she needs better material as Harley specifically within the DCEU because Harley could easily carry a solo movie. Margot definitely could yeah. And has so. I loved I, Tonya.

    • Watch other movies, Robbie is an already established actress way before DCEU came

  • But keep in mind Margot pitched this movie before Deadpool Aka Warner bros. Y’all just look dumb
