  • don't know if this is a strange point to make but as a european i think the show really wasn't for me. like the entire time these US soldiers were prancing around other nations, not following protocol, killing people, and all i could think was that they're going to address the political implications of it. and then they don't. i know it's not an overly realistic universe but holy shit. latvia literally borders russia, do you think a public killing by a US soldier wouldn't cause a fucked up big political situation. so for me when they were like walker is fine actually :) he's not that bad :) it came out of nowhere. i know the mcu is culturally super american but this show just was very explicit about its viewpoints (which, duh, captain america, i guess). just not for us, i guess

  • There were a fair few issues with this show, but probably the biggest one was no one's fault. The main plot initially included a storyline about a disease that the GRC released worldwide to curb the population and make the transition easier. Then Covid happened.

  • But Cosmonaut, if there isn't a main female villain and they make anti-Captain America the main antagonist, then this will show that women aren't strong and can't take a lead roll. And that isn't "ok" anymore. It doesn't fit the algorithm Twitter wants, so it just won't work. We just have to accept bad writing and get over it to make the world a better place.

  • Sam and Bucky were at best heavily damaged and at worst completely ruined as almost nothing is done for Bucky’s character and PTSD and what was there was poorly done. Sam was also terrible as he is so ignorant and sympathetic to Karli while despising Walker for no apparent reason. And at the same time Walker consistently makes good decisions and was completely justified in killing the cap fanboy terrorist. Lemar deserved better and Walker did nothing wrong. And need I mention how the race shit was never the point of the Captain America icon. In the end I can say I enjoyed it up to episode 6 but damn it’s so poorly written.

  • Yeah, this series is a bridge from where Falcon was, as Captain America's black sidekick to his successor, and from the perspective of that transition, the show worked- Sam got to give a speech at the end that *felt* like a Captain America speech and made me buy into him as the new Captain America, and I do like the show for that, but that's main strength of the show- seeing Sam go from point A to point B and, you know, become an interesting enough character they they can give him his own movie at some point. The rest is all just kinda there, though even with him being underused, this show is still the most I've ever cared about Bucky. While Wandavision was clearly a 1-off, I would really like to see this get a season 2 that gives Bucky more of the spotlight. There's room for a 2nd season under the title "Captain America and the Winter Soldier" that they showed off in the last episode. Though US Agent getting a redemption arc was stupid. He's more fun as the psycho that they have to overcome than whatever the hell he is now.

    Parker Dixon-WordParker Dixon-WordNgày trước
  • I agree, honestly the weirdest part of this show, was everything besides the action was top notch. I think the action was weak and everything else was amazing. US Agent and Isiah were gut punches that kept hitting. And I actually see the Agent is a neutral which is cooler than a hero or villain can ever be. And 100% agree Bucky was underused.

  • I keep hearing reviewers say that they don't like how John Walker "became a good guy by the end." That's not how I read the ending at all. He's now going to be used by the manipulative Elaine from Seinfeld to do some really shady grey-area stuff because Walker's obsessive need for glory and "patriotic duty" are weaknesses she can take advantage of. I see him doing some antihero-y ops because he's naive and reckless.

    PB&JPB&J2 ngày trước
  • They were trying to make Karli into the next Killmonger. You know, a bad guy who you can kind of empathize with. But they didn’t give her the screen time or the development needed for an arc like that. And I have to believe some stuff was cut from her arc, like the pandemic stuff people were suggesting. The big problem was I had no idea what her endgame was. Like what’s the goal here? It feels like every decision she made was at complete random with no long term plan in mind, which made it hard for me to get invested in the stakes of her arc.

    Nick AsaroNick Asaro2 ngày trước
  • Something that actually bothers me about this show is that they are all like: "Karli, killing is bad, you should you know, stop that" but the first scene that shows Falcon doing Falcon stuff shows him killing people, and also most of the MCU heroes if not all (if I'm not mistaken) are totally okay with killing people, so, kinda hypocrite there guys.

    Charles GCharles G3 ngày trước
  • Honestly it rang super hollow for Falcon and the Winter Soldier to continually be lecturing Carli about not killing people, and not getting sucked into a cycle of violence- when they are themselves essentially agents of US foreign policy caught in a cycle of violence who kill more people during the show than Carli does (to say nothing of before the show). At least Carli was feeding people and trying to stop millions of people from being deported. When Falcon and Bucky win it just means that politicians get a lecture and millions of people... get to stay in concentration camps?

  • To understand why some people thought the post snap world was better, you just need to think that Karli and most of her companions are orphans from poor countries. If a cataclysmic event happens, but no one you really cared for dies, while rich nations start to welcome people from all over the world to pick up the pieces, you would think that everything just got a lot better. Then, a bunch of heroes with trauma issues and the technology to alter reality as we now it wage war with time and make everybody reappear, making you a burden on society, an unwelcome guest in the place that for 5 years you called home. I would be pretty pissed off too. They should have explored this side of things more, instead of trying to trick a terrorist in realising she's actually a terrorist.

  • Truly the point I agree the most with is Karli here. She is pushed down our throat as this sympathetic "AntiHeroy Villainy character". And I hate that. It just feels so disingenious. A villain like UsAgent is perfect. From the start we are already on the Fence about him. But he just slowly goes more and more towards the bad side. Kind off ruined him with the super fast turnaround aswell. I dont mind where he ended up, but he kind off did a full 180 in the last episode which is a bit cheap imo.

    masterslayerablemasterslayerable4 ngày trước
  • I agree. There’s a good thing in here somewhere. They’ve got a skeleton and theres even some good meat on the ribs but there’s more space that is either just barren and left without any explanation/exploration or just covered up with very thin detail to make it seem like there’s more going on despite us never being shown what it really is that’s going on. We have good plot threads that either go nowhere, have a bland conclusion, or aren’t fleshed out enough from the start to be compelling. We have characters that SHOULD be really good but are left on the wayside or are just kinda there to fill a requirement despite their motivations being almost totally unexplained or non existent. I had fun watching it for brief periods then it would just lose me. Kinda wasted potential.

  • They definitely messed up with this show. After the first three episodes I thought this would be way better than Wanda vision but now that it’s over it seems so dry. There’s no good lasting effect like there was in Wanda Vision. Zemo was the the only character I really cared for and that’s kind of sad because it’s a show about Bucky and Sam.

  • They literally nerfed Bucky to the ground. He’s the guy that almost bested captain America/ went toe to toe with him. And now he’s some sobby beta male. The next biggest issue is Sam, he is the most boring useless avenger that could literally be replaced in a second; his ability is literally done by like half of the avengers 10times better. The other major issue is the very unsubtle BLM vibes and racial crap that is literally shoved down the viewer. The most annoying part of this series is that Bucky wasn’t the main character and that they thought Sam would have a more endearing storyline- the only thing this guy does is go to a bank and show that he is financial debt. Bucky is literally trying to make up for what he did to all the people he harmed as winter soldier. This is way more INTERESTING. The last piece of trash in this series is the writing. Like who are the flag smashers fighting?! They are literally killing randoms and then Karoo gives some preachy speech on how it is beneficial

Vanilla Ice creamVanilla Ice cream5 ngày trước
  • The show delivered two long, tired SJW sermons on race with plenty of side-servings: if that wasn't ham-fisted to you, I'm curious on what would be. John Walker felt sympathetic by virtue of having the best arc with human flaws, but a desire to be worthy of the role. Then he killed a terrorist complicit in many murders and the death of his best friend in the worst way possible for PR, and got thrown out like trash after all of his service.

  • I think Bucky’s underutilization actually work in his favor for the movies, because he’s in no way trying to be a superhero or an Avenger. He just wants to live a normal life and be at peace, yet he just gets dragged along on these adventures because it’s the life HIS friends live and need his help on. It’s the reason a lot of people were saying Bucky wouldn’t have wanted the shield or why Steve wouldn’t have given him the shield anyway. Bucky very much got forced into this crazy ass superhero drama world that Steve started and just wants an out. So he’s going to therapy to vent his problems. He’s trying to make amends with the people he wronged as The Winter Soldier. He wants to make sure his best friend’s mantle lives on in the right hands. He doesn’t wanna go into super murder cyborg mode by trading hand with a couple of misguided kids (or kids to HIS old ass lol). He just wants to let his dark past go. I understand it being underwhelming, and I’d be lying if it didn’t come of like that at some points, but it just works in his favor in my opinion.
